energy.
Before you consider volunteering at our Center, we strongly encourage
you begin by taking one of our conflict resolution trainings, so
that you have an understanding of the basis of what we do.
Many people want to volunteer as Community Mediators. Presently
there are very limited opportunities for this position. However,
we do need volunteers to help out in a variety of other areas (listed
below). We attempt to match volunteers' interests with our
Center's and our community's needs. Please read the list below of
current needs and see if there is a match. If you have other creative
ideas, let us know.
Divorce Mediators (must have completed an
approved 40 hours training on Separation and Divorce; Spanish-speakers
needed)
o Assist separating couples reach mutually agreeable resolutions
about property division, parenting arrangements, etc.
Development Assistants
o Assist board of directors with parties and special events
o Help with fundraising appeals
Community Mediators - LIMITED (must have
completed a 20-hour mediation training, have experience, and be
available some Thursday mornings; Spanish-speakers needed.)
o Assist disputants in criminal district court reach agreement
o Assist community-referred disputants
DSC Advocates
o Distribute brochures to civic groups, religious organizations,
schools, and businesses.
o Give brief presentations about our services
o Think of creative ways to get the word out about DSC
Training Supporters (experience with training
and knowledge of conflict management theories required)
o Help with the creation of new training activities and materials
o Attend trainings as a support person
Youth Training Support (conflict resolution
knowledge, and experience working with youth required)
o Assist in training groups of youth in effective conflict
resolution skills
o Assist in training peer mediators at local elementary, middle
and high schools
Facilitators (must have completed conflict
resolution training and DSC's 16-hour facilitation training)
o Help groups in our community to plan and conduct collaborative
meetings
Board Members (as elected by current Board
of Directors)
o Act as a community advocate for DSC
o Set DSC policy
o Oversee DSC mission
o Fundraise to ensure sufficient resources for mission
Organizational Development Consultants
o Assist with our work in dispute resolution systems design with
businesses and organizations
Special Projects Helpers
o Catalog our resource library
o Help with mailings
o Assist in the office with telephone intake, etc.
Technical Assistants
o Design brochures, flyers, training manuals
o Help improve our website
