2008 GENERATION PEACE ART AWARD
DSC is announcing the 3rd Annual Generation
Peace Art Award that carries a $500 cash prize. The contest
is open to Chapel, East Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Cedar Ridge, and
Orange High School students.
We are seeking entries in various media (drawing,
paingting, sculpture, photograph) that reflect the artist's
hope for peaceful conflict resolution on an interpersonal or
larger scale.
Entries should be submitted by May 9, 2008 to the
Dispute Settlement Center, 302 Weaver St, Carrboro. A panel of
judges will select the winner.
(The prize was funded by an anonymous donor
who wished to encourage young people to consider conflict and
its resolution in their lives and the culture.)

CONGRATULATIONS!
DSC Board President LeAnn Nease Brown has
been named one of the Triangle's 24 Pro Bono Award Winners by Business
Leader Media and the NC Bar Association, for her work with DSC.
DSC founders the late Charlotte Adams,
the late Tan Schwab, and Beth Okun
received the 2008 Peace Award from the Dispute Resolution Section
of the NC Bar Association at its annual meeting April 11 in Cary.
The award recognized the women's work in the 1970's leading to the
founding of the DSC, the State's first mediation center.

DSC Wins Bridge Builders Award from MLK
Committee
For its efforts and leadership in eliminating barriers
based on race/ethnicity, religion, and social and economic conditions
among the diverse communites in Orange County, the DSC was given
the Bridge Builders Award by the University/Community MLK, Jr. Planning
Corporation on January 20, 2008.
